We Won!! Thank you Tesco
18 March 2024
We are so excited to announce that we came first in the Tesco Community Grants vote receiving an amazing £1,500 and we were delighted to visit Tesco Kinson this morning to accept the donation.
This grant will be used to run our fortnightly Pre-Schoolers groups over the next year and to pay for some new equipment.
A huge thank you to everyone who voted for us and to the fabulous staff at Tesco Kinson!!
Parent/ Carer Social Evenings Launch

To provide an opportunity for parents to chat and share experiences without worrying about where their children are we have launched a new service running social evenings. Our first session was held at All Fired Up ceramic painting café and we are looking forward to many more.

Look who features in the recent edition of the Primary Times!!
A huge thank you to Primary Times Dorset for including this article on World Down's Syndrome Day and Downright Perfect. Over 45,000 copies are on their way out to all pupils in over 184 primary schools and 31 libraries across Dorset.
Charity of the Year - Avon Cliff Care Home

The amazing staff and residents at Colten Care's Avon Cliff Care Home have chosen us as their charity of the year!!
This decision comes after we were invited to go in last month to give a talk about what we do and to share some information about Down's Syndrome including the importance of language and the amazing things people with Down's Syndrome achieve with the right support.
We are already making plans with Avon Cliff about how we can work in partnership over the next year!

Charity Partner - David Lloyd Club, Poole

We are honoured to have been chosen as a charity partner by the David Lloyd Club Poole. They have already been kind enough to let us take over their creche and children's centre for the afternoon and they choose us to benefit from their member's quiz in October which raised a fab £150.
We are looking forward to continuing to work with the David Lloyd Club in the future.
Fun at High Mead Community Farm

Our members had a fab time exploring High Mead Community Farm with a spooky Halloween Scavenger Hunt and lots of animal encounters.
High Mead Farm is a supported work environment for those with disabilities, they assist those suffering from mental health issues and those recovering from illness. They create purposeful roles within the Farm environment to bring a sense of well-being and self-worth that many have never experienced before.
High Mead is not open to the public and we are honoured that they give our group such a warm welcome when we visit.

Waitrose Winton have donated an amazing £500 to help us to launch our new series of Parent Workshops. These will be a combination of information and support sessions providing much needed access to key information and opportunities to build relationships with other parents which is an invaluable source of support.
On 18 October we hosted our first Information Workshop on Education, Health and Care Plans which was delivered by Eniko Kocsis, Children's Services Manager at The Rainbow Centre. It was an incredibly informative session providing key guidance on the process and common pitfalls when dealing with this complicated process.
New Term for the Downright Perfect Pre-Schoolers

After the summer break our Pre-Schoolers groups are back up and running every other Monday at Trinity Methodist Church. Sor far this term we have already had soft play fun, been on an adventure with the Hungry Caterpillar and got spooky for Halloween.
Team Downright Perfect at the New Forest Marathon

Our team of 7 walkers and runners who took on different challenges between 5k and a half marathon have raised an incredible £1,500 for Downright Perfect.

A Grand Day Out

Our Annual Day Out saw over 75 members, siblings and parents take a trip to Adventure Wonderland.
It was absolutely fantastic to see so many of our members exploring the park and having a fab time.
Events like this are only possible with the support of our generous donors to whom we are very grateful.
Sports Day at Pre-Schoolers

Our fab Pre-Schoolers had a fab time kicking, throwing, crawling and running with prizes and certificates for all.
Dear Zoo comes to Pre-Schoolers

With the help of recent donations we have been able to purchase some new resources for our Pre-Schoolers group which runs every fortnight.
This week we had a fab time reading Dear Zoo together and exploring our new animal friends.

Fun with Minky Moos Children's Entertainment

Downright Perfect runs regular groups for Pre-Schoolers which normally run on a Monday morning. We are starting to organise some bonus sessions on a Saturday and were joined this week by Penny from Minky Moos Children's Entertainment who put on a fabulous 'under the sea' sensory session.

World Down's Syndrome Day

We celebrated World Down's Syndrome Day in style with a joint party with our West Dorset friends, Shine21. We danced, played games, made balloon models, bounced on the bouncy castle, played in soft play and ate.
We were overwhelmed by the huge number of families who came to celebrate our amazing children with us.
Events like this bring our little community together ensuring that all our families know where they can turn to for help and advice.

A Downright Perfect Christmas Party!

We have been Celebrating Christmas in style at our Christmas party.
We had a fantastic 39 children with their parents who enjoyed soft play, a buffet dinner, games and a visit from the man in red.
It was amazing to see so many people and we can't wait to see you all again in the New Year.
Pre-Schoolers Groups - Up and running!

We are delighted to announce that, after having to stop due to Covid, our Pre-Schoolers Group is now up and running again!
The groups will run every 2 weeks during term time and take place at Trinity Methodist Church in Southbourne.
We will be arranging for professionals to come into the groups to give parents the opportunity to talk to experts including Physiotherapists, Speech & Language Therapists. Music Therapists and Portage workers from BCP.
Pre-Schoolers Sensory Bags
7 September 2022
There are certain toys loved by all little ones which are great for supporting development. We have put together packs of some of these toys which are available to every child who attends one of our Pre-Schoolers groups.
These have been put together with very kind donations from Lidl, who donated 50 net bags to put the packs in and Bournemouth Run, who have donated 50 foil blankets!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Project Linus for donating 25 handmade quilts for our hospital packs.
Project Linus UK is a volunteer organisation which provides a sense of security and comfort to babies, children and teenagers through the provision of new home made patchwork quilts and knitted blankets, and give volunteers across the UK the opportunity to contribute to their local community.
